St Nicolas' Church - history

There has been a church on this site in the village of Kings Norton since the 11th Century, although most of what you see today dates from the 13th Century and in later centuries. A church was first recorded of being on this site in 1213. The spire was built between 1446 and 1475. The Norman building was demolished in the 14th Century when a new nave, both aisles and the chancel arch were constructed. By the 17th Century, almost the whole of the south aisle was rebuilt. The nave from the 15th century was replaced by a much steeper version. A parish was assigned to the church in 1846.

Restoration of the church during the 19th century was undetaken by Ewan Christian in 1863 and by W. J. Hopkins in 1871.
